"Keep Ya Head Up"

As promised, here is some video of Schuyler's tummy time yesterday where she raises her precious little head Later on that night, she even rolled over! I think it was a shock to the both of us One second she was on her tummy and the next second she was on her back!

Seven Week Update

We hosted a barbecue on Schuyler's seven week birthday Our good friends came for the weekend and we had a great time The last week with Schuyler was not the easiest as she was the most fussy she has ever been She started the week with some really bad nasal congestion which made her neurotic mother believe she had a cold We sat on the side of the tub while I ran hot water to help clear out her nose and calm her down Mission accomplished until I opened the bathroom door and the steam went billowing down the hallway All the upstairs smoke alarms started going off along with Ms Schuyler's little alarm! Of course, I couldn't reach the alarms so I had to run downstairs to get a chair from the kitchen

This week, thankfully, has started off much better She is much more content and having some really alert periods She seems to be really enjoying the Vacation Bible School songs that I sing to her and she is really getting into tummy time I'm attaching a quick video of a recent head turn Hopefully, I can get a good one of her holding her head up today It is most impressive!

This is my last week of maternity leave so I'm hoping we can make the most of it I am both looking forward and dreading my return to work The good news is that my mom will be here on Saturday and will be helping us transition Schuyler is looking forward to her grandma's arrival!

Britches

This was a weekend of firsts for the Anthony family! On Thursday afternoon, Schuyler put on her first pair of pants to visit Mommy's office The weather on Saturday was nice so we took her to the outdoor mall with friends and even ate lunch on the outdoor patio of a restaurant While shopping, we met another six-week old girl named Taylor who was also on her first "trip" out and about It was nice to compare notes with Taylor's mom That evening Todd and I even went on our first post-SgA date while our friends watched our girls at home We had a good time, but sure missed our little bird!

Week Five Pics

One-month Update

It's hard to believe that we celebrated Schuyler's one-month birthday last week In honor of the occassion, I made a carrot cake from scratch! I was quite a sight that morning with my hair resembling some sort of bird's nest and my robe covered in baby spit and flour The cake was a little dry, but decent especially considering the cooking circumstances, ie barking dog, crying baby, sleep-deprived mom I have actually been on quite the sweets kick these past few weeks Something about having baby girl has made me want to bake I also made a berry cobbler in the crock pot and lemon bars for Easter (The berry cobbler recipe is from Paula Deen and you all must try it - so yummy and easy! The recipe is on the Food Network website Search for slow cooker cobbler)

Schuyler's one month check up went really well She weighed in at 6 pounds, 15 ounces ounces and was 19 and a quarter inches long The only issue was that her jaundice level had actually risen from the last visit Poor girl had to have blood taken out of her little arm so they could run a battery of tests Thankfully, all the tests came back fine The final determination was that she has breast milk induced jaundice After a 72-hour period of only formula, her level dropped way down The other good news is that she took to the bottle really well Hopefully, she won't have too much of a problem going back to breastfeeding full-time

Finally, she celebrated her First Easter on Sunday She had a basket filled with a little rattle and a chocolate bunny which her father stole from her! And, we continued the Anthony Family tradition of hiding treat stuffed, plastic Easter eggs for Dixie to find That trick just never gets old!

Update from Mom

Sorry for the delay in posting - this motherhood thing takes up a lot of time! Schuyler will be one-month old tomorrow (A word of warning - this post will not include periods - we are having an issue with our laptop) I now understand why my Mom laughed when I said I was going to take this time to do things like organizing recipes and cleaning out my closet It is a huge victory if we are able to eat dinner while watching an entire episode of 30 Rock or The Office! My advice to all my future Mom friends: Enjoy your long, leisurely meals while you still can

I can't believe how fast these past four weeks have gone by Schuyler is definitely growing up and becoming more alert We have now taken Schuyler for her first walk (see pics below) Todd and I also took Schuyler out on the town this past Saturday She slept while we ate Five guys' cheeseburers and fries on the console of the F-150! Schuyler and I also finished our first book - a collection of short stories from my favorite chick lit author, Jennifer Weiner Initially, I questioned whether or not this was an appropriate choice for a newborn I decided it was okay since she sleeps for most of the reading time anyway Still, I chose the more traditional "Little Women" for our next book It has also dawned on me that I know zero nursery rhymes I improvise by singing songs I do know like our high school song , Take Me Out to the Ballame, etc She loves when I hum her the Anheuser-Busch theme song Again, I don't know that a song about the beer is infant appropriate, but we do what works in this house!
